It can be a full-time job trying to be different from your parents: namely, trying not to repeat their mistakes.
Each generation strives to make micro (or macro) improvements from its predecessor.
A full 180° can result in problems just as well, only in the opposite direction.
So forge forward. Realize that you’ll need to be vigilant to reprogram deep programmed assumptions from childhood. Realize that a 50 minute psychotherapy session to uncover, “oh yeah, I do that too,” isn’t nearly insight-enough to unlearn years of parental programming and internalization.
Insight without action is wasteful. Action without reliable improvement is called practice.
Keep at it—stay vigilant—and as John Locke so famously illustrated—examine each apple (belief) in your basket (mind) to ensure that one doesn’t spoil the rest.
Uproot and remove beliefs that do not serve you, your values, and the direction that you wish to take your life.
